Recycler sues BP over 2010 oil spill

PITTSBURGH — LaRose Scrap & Salvage Inc. is suing BP Exploration & Production Inc. for failing to compensate the company for a financial setback it suffered as a result of the 2010 drill rig explosion and oil spill that polluted the Gulf Coast.

The recycler claims it suffered a $3.7-million loss of income at its Broussard, La., scrap and salvage facility.

The operation, which focuses on acquiring metals from oil and gas exploration companies, saw its revenue dwindle and it was forced to decrease payroll hours to manage costs following the 2010 accident, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Louisiana.
