LONDON — Eurasian Natural Resources Corp. Plc (ENRC) has confirmed that Britain’s Serious Fraud Office has opened a formal investigation into the company.

The London-based company said it is "assisting and cooperating fully" with the investigation and is "committed to a full and transparent investigation of its procedures and conduct."

ENRC chairman Mehmet Dalman, who had been heading an internal investigation into allegations of fraud, resigned from his post earlier this week. Gerhard Ammann has taken over as acting chairman (, April 24).

The British investigative agency said that its director had "accepted ENRC for criminal investigation," adding that its inquiry will focus on allegations of fraud, bribery and corruption related to the company and its subsidiaries in Central Asia and Africa.
