Xstrata joins push for e-cycling legislation

NEW YORK — The Coalition for American Electronics Recycling (CAER) has received a boost in its efforts to reintroduce electronics recycling legislation: Xstrata Copper joined its ranks this past week.

The copper producer, as well as information technology asset disposition company CloudBlue Technologies Inc., have joined CAER’s campaign in support of the Responsible Electronics Recycling Act (RERA), which CAER hopes will be reintroduced in the current legislative session.

RERA would prohibit unregulated exports of non-working electronics and e-waste that contain hazardous materials while not restricting trade in tested, working electronics and recycled commodities.

CAER now includes 94 companies operating 176 facilities across the country.
