MEXICO CITY Crude steel production in Mexico reached 1.14 million tonnes in March, down 27 percent from the same month last year, according to figures released by Latin American steel association Alacero.
Mexican finished steel output dropped 4 percent to 1.3 million tonnes in the same comparison. This included 577,000 tonnes of long steel products, 634,000 tonnes of flat-rolled steel products and 87,000 tonnes of seamless tubes, the association said.
The tallies were also down compared with February, when the country produced 1.54 million tonnes of crude steel and 1.38 million tonnes of finished steel (amm.com, March 21).
