Mexican steel imports fall, exports rise in first two months

MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s finished steel imports totaled 1.14 million tonnes in the first two months of the year, down 9.5 percent from 1.26 million tonnes in the same period last year, according to the latest figures from Latin American steel association Alacero.

Exports of finished steel from Mexico increased 11.2 percent to 555,000 tonnes in the same comparison, according to the association.

Mexican steel consumption declined 6.5 percent year on year to 3.14 million tonnes during the January-to-February period.
