NEW YORK — Nucor Corp. has lowered its base price on concrete reinforcing bar by $20 per ton ($1 per hundredweight) effective with shipments May 2, the steelmaker said in a May 2 letter to customers.

The announcement came one day after Gerdau Long Steel North America said it was lowering its base price on rebar by $20 per ton (, May 2).

Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor said the $20-per-ton drop will be the new transaction price "regardless of any change in the raw material surcharge," which is based on AMM’s consumer buying price for shredded automotive scrap in the Chicago market.
