NEW YORK L.B. Foster Co. has supplied 2,600 tons of 36-inch-diameter steel pipe with wall thicknesses between 1.125 and 1.5 inches for use as lateral shoring struts in the excavation of San Franciscos new Transbay Transit Center.
"More than 160 truckloads of pipe as heavy as 17 tons each were required for the excavation of this signature transit project," said Dan Schrager, senior sales representative for Pittsburgh-based L.B. Fosters construction products.
The Transbay Transit Center is a multi-billion-dollar regional hub connecting the city to eight Bay Area counties with rail and bus transit systems, the company said.
