LOS ANGELES — Ryan Secrist has been named president of Aurora, Colo.-based structural steel distributor Brown-Strauss Steel, succeeding Mike Calvert, who is retiring at the end of June.

Secrist, who currently is executive vice president of the Blue Tee Corp. subsidiary, will begin his new role July 1. Calvert will remain on Blue Tee’s board of directors.

Secrist joined Brown-Strauss in 2011 after serving as vice president of operations at Maxum Petroleum Inc., a Greenwich, Conn.-based distributor of petroleum products. Previously, he was vice president of Northwest Capital Appreciation Inc., Seattle.

Calvert joined Brown-Strauss as chief financial officer in 1987 after serving as vice president of its former Knoxville Iron Co. division in Tennessee, and was named president in 1992. He was responsible for opening new facilities and improving existing operations in Arizona, California, Colorado and Washington.

While privately held Blue Tee doesn’t disclose Brown-Strauss’ sales figures, market sources say it is one of the largest structural steel distributors in the western United States.

Wide-flange beams represent about two-thirds of the company’s sales, while tubing accounts for 20 to 25 percent, Secrist told AMM. He said the distributor is looking at "various" opportunities for expanding its business.
