NEW YORK — A production ramp-up at ArcelorMittal Mines Canada remains on track, ArcelorMittal SA chairman and chief executive officer Lakshmi Mittal said in a statement released with first-quarter results May 10.

The company will complete the expansion of its iron ore concentrator at Mount Wright in northern Quebec by the end of the first half of 2013, it said previously.

Iron ore concentrate capacity will increase by 8 million tonnes per year to 24 million tonnes per year, and production will be sold to steel producers in North America, Europe and Asia, the company said.

It is estimated that Canadian $2.1 billion ($2.09 billion) will be spent on the expansion project.
