LONDON Alcoa Inc. has appointed Robert Wilt as president of global primary products effective June 1, the company said May 16.
Wilt is currently chief operating officer of Alcoas primary products business, which includes smelters, refineries and mines in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Australia.
He replaces Chris Ayers, who is leaving Alcoa to become president and chief executive officer of Kansas City, Mo.-based WireCo WorldGroup Inc.
"Bobs deep industry experience and outstanding track record at Alcoa make him uniquely qualified to lead our global primary business," chief executive officer Klaus Kleinfeld said. "He has risen through the ranks of our primary business with noteworthy leadership and business success."
Wilt joined the Pittsburgh-based company in 1999 as superintendent of its U.S. metals operations in Alcoa, Tenn. He has held such roles as plant manager, vice president of energy development and president of U.S. primary products.
