NEW YORK Tenaris SA plans
to fire up two new U- and O-forming presses representing a
$180-million investment at its mill in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil,
next week, the company said May 22.
"The investment comes in
response to the oil and gas industry, which is demanding
products with ever more rigorous technical specifications,"
Renato Catallini, Tenaris area manager for Brazil, said.
"The new presses will manufacture tubes with greater wall
thicknesses in more sophisticated steel grades, capable of
performing in hostile deepwater projects, such as
high-pressure, sour or highly corrosive environments."
The new presses will allow the
Luxembourg-based company to manufacture tubes with wall
thicknesses up to 1½ inches and diameters between
12¾ inches and 48 inches.
