CHICAGO — A breach-of-contract lawsuit filed by Irondale Industrial Contractors Inc. against Gerdau Special Steel North America in February was dismissed without prejudice May 13, as the two sides agreed to proceed to arbitration.

In a complaint filed Feb. 27 in U.S. District Court in Alabama, Irondale claimed that it was owed more than $4.8 million in unpaid invoices and expenses incurred for work performed at the Jackson, Mich.-based steelmaker’s plant in Monroe, Mich. ( amm.com, March 4).

Birmingham, Ala.-based Irondale was contracted in October 2011 to perform construction services related to installation of a caster at the mill, according to court documents.

Since the original contract required the parties to arbitrate claims, Irondale had filed a motion to stay litigation and compel arbitration at the same time that it filed its complaint.
