Deacero’s crude steel output at record 2.97M tonnes in 2012

MEXICO CITY — Mexican long products producer Deacero SA de CV produced 2.97 million tonnes of crude steel in 2012, setting a new annual production record.

The volume was up nearly 5 percent from 2011, when production reached 2.84 million tonnes, a company spokesman told AMM sister publication Steel First.

The Garza García, Mexico-based steelmaker is expected to increase output again this year after recently starting up its new Acería 3M plant in Mexico’s northern state of Coahuila, according to local news reports.

The new mini-mill started producing crude steel in March after an investment estimated at $700 million (, April 3).

Deacero now has a total production capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per year of crude steel and 3.7 million tonnes per year of finished products.
