ArcelorMittal promotes two execs in Flat Carbon division

NEW YORK — ArcelorMittal USA LLC has appointed two executives to its Flat Carbon USA division, the company said June 6.

John D. Mengel, chief operating officer of the steelmaker’s plate operations, has been named vice president and general manager of the company’s Burns Harbor, Ind., location and will report to Andy Harshaw, ArcelorMittal’s executive vice president of operations.

Mengel will be responsible for the flat carbon steelmaking operations in Burns Harbor, Ind., as well as the finishing operations in Columbus, Ohio, overseeing safety, quality, productivity, budgeting and other aspects of day-to-day operations at each site.

John J. Battisti will succeed Mengel as chief operating officer of the company’s plate operations. Battisti will oversee facilities in Burns Harbor; Gary, Ind.; Coatesville, Pa.; and Conshohocken, Pa. He was previously a division manager at the Burns Harbor operations.
