NEW YORK — Powdermet Inc. has secured partnerships with the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Energy Department to move toward commercialization of its EnCom energetic nanocomposites and MComP microcomposite materials for use in high-density energy storage and energy-efficient mechanical bearing markets.

EnComp improves the energy density and power density of batteries while MComP provides the friction and wear performance of advanced, diamond-like carbon coatings but with the toughness, strength and formability of metals, according to Euclid, Ohio-based Powdermet, a subsidiary of Abakan Inc., Miami.
