LONDON Rio Tinto Plc has begun cutting staff at its London offices, AMM sister publication Metal Bulletin understands.
The company announced in April that it planned to cut 217 jobs at its London headquarters, reducing the total to 262.
A Rio Tinto spokesman declined to offer further details. "Following the announcement in late April of the intention to reduce the number of roles at our London headquarters, we are in the process of consulting with staff so it would not be appropriate to comment further," he said. "This decision was not been taken lightly, and Rio Tinto is committed to supporting all affected employees through the process."
