PITTSBURGH Randy Ehret this week joined Republic Steel as mill buyer.
In his role as manager of supply chain for raw materials, Ehret will oversee the purchase of scrap metals and alloys for the Canton, Ohio-based special bar quality steel producer.
The move comes less than three weeks after Ehret left PSC Metals Inc., where he served as president of its northern operations (amm.com, May 30).
Ehret acknowledged his appointment at Republic, but declined to comment. He spent 31 years at Canton-based Timken Co. and worked as the companys general manager of strategic sourcing for steel.
During his time at Timken, Ehret gained a reputation for setting the tone for monthly scrap pricing, and his purchasing patterns were closely watched by the industry.
Republic, owned by Mexicos Grupo Simec SAB de CV, is preparing to start up a new electric-arc furnace expansion project in the second half of this year (amm.com, April 29).
