NEW YORK Teck Resources Ltd. has named Ian Kilgour executive vice president and chief operating officer effective immediately.
Kilgour, most recently senior vice president of coal at the Vancouver, British Columbia-based miner, has held a variety of management roles in the mining industry over the past three decades, including president and chief executive officer of Cia. Minera Antamina SA.
"Ian brings a strong track record of consistently driving results, a focus on cost management and global experience to the (chief operating officer) role," Teck president and chief executive officer Donald R. Lindsay said in a statement.
Kilgour will be responsible for all of Tecks mining operations and joint ventures in its metallurgical coal, copper and zinc business divisions, the company said.
Teck also announced on June 20 the appointment of Dale Andres as senior vice president of copper.
Andres joined Teck in 1995 and most recently served as vice president of copper strategy and North American operations. He will report to Kilgour, the company said.
Andres succeeds Roger Higgins, who will retire after five years at Teck and more than 35 years in the mining industry, the company said.
During Higgins tenure, Tecks copper production grew to an annual rate of 400,000 tonnes in the second half of 2012 from some 300,000 tonnes in 2008, Teck said.
