PITTSBURGH A metals recycling operation is seeking to open on a large site in Columbus, Ga., but it is unclear who is looking to open the facility.
Columbus planning advisory commission has received a request from Edwards Strategic Investments & Acquisitions LLC/Trey Carmack seeking to rezone a 39.1-acre parcel to light metal manufacturing from single family residential. Neither the planning commission nor the applicant could be reached for comment.
Columbus is already a crowded and competitive scrap market, according to industry sources. Players include EJK Recycling, Newell Recycling LLC and Schnitzer Southeast, all in Columbus, as well as Blaze Brothers Recycling across the river in Phenix City, Ala.
