NEW YORK — Cliffs Natural Resources Inc.’s vice president of government and public affairs, Dana Byrne, will retire from the company effective July 1.

Byrne will assume a one-year consultancy role with Cliffs after his retirement, at which time he will be succeeded by director of global government relations Raga Elim.

Elim, who joined the company in 2011, will also assume responsibility for the company’s global communications and public affairs functions.

Byrne joined the Cleveland-based company in 1979 and was appointed to his current position in 2004. Over the past three years, he has been extensively involved with the company’s Black Thor chromite project in northern Ontario. Cliffs recently suspended environmental assessment work on this project (, June 12).
