CHICAGO — Union workers have ratified a new five-year labor agreement with Haynes International Inc., a company employee confirmed July 5.

The ratification vote was held July 3, said Mary Smith, an employee in the company’s human resources department. She declined to comment further.

A woman who answered the phone at United Steelworkers union Local 2958, which represents workers at Kokomo, Ind.-based Haynes, also confirmed that the vote had taken place but referred questions about the vote tally to local president Rex Ambrose, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The agreement covers approximately 505 workers at Haynes’ Kokomo plant and Lebanon, Ind., service center, the nickel- and cobalt-based alloy producer said earlier in the week.

"This five-year agreement between Haynes and the USW will represent a strong statement that both the company and the USW are making a long-term commitment to employees, customers and shareholders," Jean C. Neel, vice president, corporate affairs, said in a statement July 1.
