NEW YORK Kloeckner Metals Corp. is closing the structural divisions at both its Fontana and Stockton distribution locations in California, AMM has learned.
Possibly they were expecting to get more profits from these two locations but (another large distributor in the area) is a tough player and they were marking up very, very little on beams, one western distributor said.
The units offered channels, angles and beams among other long steel products, according to the Roswell, Ga.-based companys website.
The western distributor said Kloeckner sold off a large amount of beams as a result of the closures.
A company spokesman did not return a request for comment, while a general manager for the two locations declined to comment.
Kloeckners City of Industry, Los Angeles, Santa Fe Springs and Tulare locations in California also carry structural products, according to its website.
The company is a subsidiary of Duisburg, Germany-based Klöckner & Co. SE.
