NEW YORK Joseph Carrabba, president and chief executive officer of Cliffs Natural Resources Inc., will retire by the end of this year, the company said July 9.

Carrabba, who joined Cliffs from Rio Tinto Plc in 2005 (amm.com, May 3, 2005), will continue to serve as president, chief executive officer and a director of the company until a successor has been elected, when he will step down from the board.
Meanwhile, Laurie Brlas has retired as executive vice president and president of global operations effectively immediately and has left the company.
Cleveland-based Cliffs produces iron ore and metallurgical coal in North America and has iron ore mining operations Western Australia.
