NEW YORK Custom metal fabricator GBC Inc. has been cited by the U.S. Department of Labors Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for 13 alleged safety violations following the serious injury of a worker in March, landing it an $82,600 fine.
"The employers lack of preparedness is unconscionable, and OSHA will not tolerate exposing workers to such negligence," David Nelson, the agencys Englewood, Colo., area director, said.
The citations follow an incident in which a worker was pinned to the ground by a product load dropped from an overhead crane, resulting in amputation at the knee.
Lakewood, Colo.-based GBC employs 50 people.
The company declined to comment on the citations.
GBC has two weeks to comply with the citations or contest them before a review commission.
