TOKYO Mitsubishi Aluminium Co will spend 1.7 billion yen
($20 million) to increase production capacity in the United
States and Thailand, the company has said.
The Tokyo-based company plans to spend nearly 950 million yen
on Thermalex Inc., its subsidiary in Alabama, to install a
state-of-the-art press for processing heat exchanger parts. The
factorys annual output capacity is expected to rise
13,000 tonnes from 10,000 tonnes by November 2014.
Aluminium alloys are used in heat exchangers as they provide
high heat transfer efficiency.
The company will also spend 790 million yen by August 2014 to
boost output at its Thailand plant by 50 percent to 7,200
tonnes per year.
Demand for heat exchangers has been growing as a result of
brisk automobile production in North America and Southeast
Asia, with output in the two regions expected to continue
growing at an annual rate of 4 to 6 percent, the company noted.
In addition, more air conditioner manufacturers are switching
from copper to cheaper aluminium parts.
