CHICAGO — The Association of Steel Distributors (ASD) has chosen AK Steel Corp. chairman, president and chief executive officer James L. Wainscott as its 2013 captain of industry.

The award recognizes individuals who have exhibited "exemplary vision, extraordinary leadership and everlasting influence in the advancement of the steel industry," the Chicago-based group said. ASD’s board will celebrate Wainscott’s achievement at an Oct. 26 dinner during its fall conference.

A 32-year veteran of the steel industry, Wainscott joined West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel in 1995. He is chairman of the Steel Market Development Institute and a member of the Washington-based Business Roundtable.

He follows previous recipients Keith Busse, chairman of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Steel Dynamics Inc. (2011) and Daniel DiMicco, executive chairman of Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corp. (2010).
