CHICAGO — Tom Ballou, vice president of supply chain management at O’Neal Steel Inc., has retired, according to the Birmingham, Ala.-based company.

Ballou will continue to serve the company in an advisory role through the end of the year.

Following service in the U.S. Navy, Ballou began his career at U.S. Steel Corp., where he held a variety of sales and management positions. He joined O’Neal Steel in 1985 to lead the marketing efforts related to its participation in Corus Tuscaloosa Steel Corp. (now Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc.).

Ballou became general manager of O’Neal’s Toledo, Ohio, operation and later opened a Pittsburgh service center before returning to Birmingham to join the company’s purchasing department.

Ballou served as director of carbon plate and flat-rolled products until 2008, when he was promoted to vice president, managing O’Neal’s entire supply chain.

"Tom’s strong supplier relationships have been of great benefit to the company," O’Neal Steel president Holman Head said in a statement.

Jodi Parnell will succeed Ballou as vice president of supply chain management. Parnell was previously director of carbon products, overseeing more than 70 percent of O’Neal’s total inventory.

Parnell began her career in the metals industry in 1998 at Tuscaloosa Steel and joined O’Neal a year later as a product specialist.
