NEW YORK — Steel producer Ternium SA expects the coating line at its Shreveport, La., mill to resume full operations in the coming week after a July 5 fire caused by a Galvalume zinc leakage.

The mill’s paint line is functioning, but its coating line is undergoing repairs in the hope of resuming operations soon, according to a Ternium spokeswoman. She added that Ternium is "in close contact with customers and (does not) expect a significant impact" on order deliveries due to the shutdown.

A Shreveport Fire Department spokesman told AMM that responders worked with plant personnel to "slow production to a point where the product cooled itself down and sealed around the leak in the vat." The spokesman said that one vat on the coating line, the mill’s galvanizing vat, remained operational.
