Consol Energy sets coal output targets

LONDON — Consol Energy Inc. expects to produce 13.4 million to 13.9 million tons of coal in the third quarter of 2013, pushing the full-year total to 55.5 million to 57.5 million tons, the company said July 15.

The Pittsburgh-based company’s Buchanan Mine in Virginia is expected to produce 700,000 to 900,000 tons, while annual production guidance remains at 4 million to 4.2 million tons.

The company’s Consol division produced 13.8 million tons in the second quarter, including 1.2 million tons of low-volatility coking coal from Buchanan.

Second-quarter coal inventories decreased to 917,000 tons as of June 30, a new 15-year low.
