AK cuts most stainless extras for August

NEW YORK — AK Steel Corp. has lowered its surcharges for most grades of stainless steel for August.

The West Chester, Ohio-based company set its August surcharges at 63.53 cents per pound for Type 304, down 4.1 percent from 66.22 cents in July; 44.24 cents per pound for Type 201, down 2 percent from 45.14 cents; and 88.74 cents per pound for Type 316, down 5.8 percent from 94.23 cents.

Meanwhile, the surcharge for Type 430 material, which contains no nickel, has increased 7.6 percent to 23.03 cents per pound from 21.41 cents in July.

ATI Allegheny Ludlum Corp., part of Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Technologies inc., and North American Stainless Inc., Ghent, Ky., announced similar moves for August (amm.com, July 22).
