MEXICO CITY The death toll at a Ternium Mexico SA de CV flat steel products plant in northern Mexico has now reached six, the company confirmed July 24.
At least 10 more people remain hospitalized, it added.
Ternium said the explosion occurred July 22 during routine maintenance work at the direct-reduced iron intake of an electric arc furnace at its Guerrero plant in San Nicolás de los Garza, in northern Mexicos Nuevo León state.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way, the company added.
Ternium Mexico is a fully integrated steel producer with its own iron ore mines. It has an annual slab production capacity of 2.3 million tonnes and a flat-rolled steel production capacity of 6 million tonnes per year.
