Outokumpu lowers most stainless surcharges

NEW YORK — Outokumpu Stainless USA LLC has lowered its surcharges for most grades of stainless steel for August.

The Calvert, Ala.-based company set its August surcharges at 63.55 cents per pound for Type 304 material, down 4.3 percent from 66.41 cents this month; 43.44 cents per pound for Type 201, down 1.8 percent from 44.24 cents; and 88.25 cents per pound for Type 316, down 6.6 percent from 94.52 cents. The surcharge for Type 430 material, which contains no nickel, has been increased 7.5 percent to 23.01 cents per pound from 21.41 cents.

West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp., Ghent, Ky.-based North American Stainless Inc. and Brackenridge, Pa.-based ATI Allegheny Ludlum Corp. all announced similar moves to lower their surcharges recently (, July 23).
