Mexico’s iron ore, coal output up in May

MEXICO CITY — Mexican iron ore production totaled 708,125 tonnes in May, up 1 percent year on year from 701,000 tonnes, according to figures released by national statistics agency Inegi.

Coal production jumped 17.4 percent to 1.47 million tonnes in the same comparison.

Production of copper was almost flat 38,178 tonnes in May, up 0.3 percent from the same month last year. Zinc and lead both logged declines in production to 34,550 tonnes and 16,268 tonnes, respectively, down 17.5 percent and 5.1 percent in the same comparison, Inegi said.
