NEW YORK — ArcelorMittal SA is recovering from a blast furnace outage Aug. 8 at its Indiana Harbor facility in East Chicago, Ind.

The unscheduled maintenance outage, caused by a turbo blower failure at the facility’s No. 3 blast furnace, is not expected to impact customer supply, an ArcelorMittal spokesman told AMM.

“Spares and other necessary repair equipment have been identified and the furnace will return to normal operation when repairs are completed,” the representative said, adding that the company is using the outage to advance planned maintenance repairs.

The spokesman did not comment on when the furnace is expected to return to full operation or the outage’s effect on production capacity.

The Luxembourg-based company said there were no injuries as a result of the outage. The Indiana Harbor facility has a total raw steel-making capacity of 10 million tons, according to ArcelorMittal’s website.
