NEW YORK United Steelworkers union members have ratified an 18-month labor agreement at AK Steel Corp.s Ashland Works.
"We are pleased to have reached a new labor agreement at our Ashland Works ahead of the expiration date," James L. Wainscott, chairman, president and chief executive officer of the West Chester, Ohio-based steel producer, said in a statement. "The agreement continues to serve the interests of both the company and (USW) Local 1865 members in an increasingly competitive, global steel industry."
The new labor contract, which will be effective Sept. 1 and expire March 1, 2015, covers more than 800 hourly production and maintenance workers at the Ashland, Ky., facility.
The company and the union reached a tentative deal on Aug. 9 (amm.com, Aug. 9 (amm.com, Aug. 9).
