NEW YORK — Stainless steel storage and equipment manufacturer Feldmeier Equipment Inc. has started an $8-million expansion that will include the construction of a 50,000-square-foot addition to its Little Falls, N.Y., operations.

The company also plans to upgrade machinery and equipment at its Syracuse, N.Y.-based headquarters and at Little Falls, Feldmeier operations manager Colby Clark told AMM. He said the new manufacturing facility, a little more than a mile from its Little Falls plant, is scheduled to be completed by the end of February 2014.

Clark described Feldmeier as the biggest stainless steel tank manufacturer in the United States, with its largest product comprising up to 60,000 pounds of stainless steel.

New York state agency Empire State Development Corp. (ESD) is helping to fund the expansion with a $200,000 capital grant and $550,000 in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits. Both incentives are tied to project completion and job-creation commitments, with the expansion expected to create 80 jobs, the agency said.

"ESD’s assistance was necessary in order to keep the expansion in New York state as the company also has manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Iowa and Nevada. The (Little Falls) location specifically was competing with sites in both Iowa and Nevada for this expansion," the agency said, adding that the expansion "will allow the company to be more competitive and help them maintain a strong presence in the Northeast."

The family owned company serves the pharmaceutical, biotech, cosmetic, food and dairy industries.
