US brass mill imports, exports rise in July

NEW YORK — U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products increased in July compared with the same month last year, according to the latest statistics from the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council.

Imports totaled 45.57 million pounds, up 4.2 percent from 43.72 million pounds in July last year, putting the year-to-date total at 291.21 million pounds, down 2.5 percent from 298.67 million pounds in the same period last year.

The biggest supplier in July was Germany at 9.52 million pounds, followed by South Korea (7.93 million pounds), Mexico (5.06 million pounds), China (4.28 million pounds) and Canada (4.04 million pounds).

U.S. exports of brass mill products totaled 20.15 million pounds in July, up 2.9 percent from 19.58 million pounds a year earlier, and year-to-date exports of 145.67 million pounds remained 0.5 percent ahead of 144.94 million pounds in the first seven months of last year.

Mexico was the largest consumer of U.S. material in July at 7.49 million pounds, followed by Canada (6.42 million pounds), South Korea (1.1 million pounds), China (937,987 pounds) and Hong Kong (562,343 pounds).
