MEXICO CITY — Mexican steelmaker Altos Hornos de México SA de CV’s (Ahmsa’s) Fénix steel expansion project has been working at around 40 percent of production capacity following its start-up in July, a top executive told AMM sister publication Steel First.

"I would want to be at 100 percent, but we are in a learning curve," Ahmsa chairman Alonso Ancira Elizondo said on the sidelines of the 3rd Mexican Iron and Steel Conference  in Mexico City organized by steel association Canacero. "By the end of this year we expect to reach 100 percent."

The project was officially commissioned July 18 (amm.com, July 19).
