NEW YORK Nucor
Corp.s rolling mill and melt shop in Kankakee, Ill., will
be shut down for maintenance from Sept. 21 through Oct. 1, and
wont ship many sizes of rebar from the facility for much
of that period, according to a letter to customers dated Sept.
The mill will also
conduct maintenance on its shipping cranes. Various grades and
lengths of rebar from sizes No. 3 to No. 11 wont be
available between Sept. 21 and Sept. 26.
"Is it going to
disrupt things? Yes, it will. Thats why weve had to
stock stuff for the past three weeks," one Kankakee customer
customers company said it was buying material from other
sources during the interim, including Charlotte, N.C.-based
Nucors other locations and Gerdau Long Steel North
Americas depots in the region.
