NEW YORK — Noront Resources Ltd. has named Alan Coutts president, chief executive officer and a director effective Oct. 1, 2013.

Coutts most recently served as managing director of Xstrata Nickel Australasia, based in Perth, Australia. He has also worked as general manager at Xstrata’s Brunswick Mine in Canada and occupied various management roles at Falconbridge Ltd., which is now a subsidiary of Glencore Xstrata Plc.

"We are confident that Alan will be able to apply his skills to further the development and progression of Noront’s ‘Ring of Fire’ properties," Noront chairman and interim chief executive officer Paul Parisotto said in a statement.

Toronto-based Noront is focused on developing the Eagle’s Nest nickel-copper-platinum-palladium deposit and the Blackbird chromite deposit, both of which are located in Ontario’s Ring of Fire region.
