Brazil aluminum use to rise: Abal

SÃO PAULO — Consumption of aluminum products in Brazil will grow 4.1 percent year on year in 2013 to 1.48 million tonnes, beating previous growth estimates of 3.7 percent, according to Brazilian aluminum association Abal.

Abal expects consumption of sheet, the best-selling aluminum product in Brazil, to increase 7.6 percent to 574,000 tonnes by year-end, while extruded products are set to end the year up 7 percent at 376,000 tonnes and cast items will grow 3.2 percent to 214,000 tonnes.

Consumption of wire and cable products is expected to end the year down 10.5 percent at 132,000 tonnes, Abal said.
