Bilstein plans Kentucky plant

CHICAGO — German automotive supplier Bilstein Group will build a $120-million cold-rolled steel production plant, Bilstein Cold Rolled Steel LP, in Bowling Green, Ky., according to state officials.

Hagen, Germany-based Bilstein Group wants to serve its North American automotive customers with local production from the planned 150,000-square-foot rolling mill facility.

Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2015, with operations starting up by early 2018.

Bilstein Group was approved for $3.5 million in state investment tax credits to support the project. The company expects to hire 90 people to run the plant.

The company didn’t specify the new plant’s capacity. Company executives couldn’t be reached for comment.
