FARMINGTON, Pa. — The Aluminum Association has named Noranda Aluminum Holding Corp. president and chief executive officer Layle "Kip" Smith as its new chairman.

Smith was nominated and approved at the Arlington, Va.-based association’s fall meeting in Farmington, Pa. He succeeds Patrick Franc, president and chief executive officer of Louisville, Ky.-based Tri-Arrows Aluminum Inc.

"It has been a pleasure working on behalf of the industry and the association," Franc said. "As I step down, I am confident in the industry, where it’s going and the new blood, the changeover that we’ve had."

Smith was succeeded as vice chairman of the Aluminum Association by Garney B. Scott, president of Waverly, Tenn.-based Scepter Inc.
