PITTSBURGH — The owner of a New Hampshire auto recycling operation has been fined and ordered to close the facility after allegedly violating a court order.

James Bonia, owner of Tri-State Car Crushing in Lempster, N.H., has been ordered to pay $84,000 in civil penalties that previously had been suspended, according to the state attorney general. He is also barred from owning or operating an auto salvage yard in the state without prior approval.

Bonia had been accused of violating a 2010 consent order and burying solid waste at the operation in violation of environmental regulations.

Bonia signed a consent agreement in 2010 to settle a state lawsuit for allegedly improperly managing and storing hazardous wastes and failing to monitor groundwater (, April 21, 2010).

Bonia couldn’t be reached for comment.
