China’s ferrous scrap imports off in Sept.

SHANGHAI — China imported 287,614 tonnes of ferrous scrap in September, down 14.4 percent from August and 3.4 percent lower year on year, according to Chinese customs data.

Largest supplier Japan provided 195,776 tonnes for the month, down just 0.1 percent from August; and arrivals from the United States, the second-largest supplier, tumbled 51.8 percent to 49,152 tonnes. Hong Kong, meanwhile, shipped 15,151 tonnes, up 49.4 percent from August levels.
