SÃO PAULO — Brazilian copper producer Paranapanema SA has named Christophe Malik Akli as its new president. He replaces interim president Edson Monteiro, who will act as director vice president.

Akli is an engineer and holds a masters degree in biochemistry.

Monteiro took over as temporary president in February following the resignation of former president Luiz Antonio Ferraz Jr. in December 2012.

The company currently produces about 267,000 tonnes per year of cathodes and will increase its output to 280,000 tonnes annually in the next year.
