NEW YORK — Nucor Corp. has raised minimum base prices on its plate products by $40 per ton ($2 per hundredweight) effective immediately, it said in a Nov. 7 letter to customers.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker said the increase applies to "all new orders for carbon, alloy and heat-treated plate."

Last month, Lisle, Ill-based SSAB Americas surprised buyers with a $20-per-ton plate increase just one week after an earlier $30-per-ton price boost (, Oct. 24). The move was said to follow an earlier $50-per-ton increase by Chicago-based ArcelorMittal USA LLC.
