Minnesota recycler seeking approval for first feeder yard

PITTSBURGH — Steel Chick Recycling is seeking permission to open a feeder yard in Chisago City, Minn.

The local planning commission will hold a hearing Dec. 5 to consider a request from Alexa Kampa for a conditional use permit for the business, which would purchase and separate metals in bins that would be stored indoors.

City planners, which are concerned that the property is too small for the business and may generate noise issues, are recommending that if the company’s request is approved that no materials be stored or dismantled outside, a privacy fence be installed and that parameters be established to decide if the business becomes too large for the site.

Kampa, who started working in the peddler trade two years ago, told AMM she has landed local industrial accounts, outgrown the business she started at her home and needs a larger facility.
