NEW YORK Evraz Inc. North America is upgrading its Pueblo, Colo., facility to enable it to produce higher-carbon grades of wire rod, sources said.
AMM was unable to receive confirmation on the details from Evraz, and the company has not yet officially released details on the equipment.
A wire rod buyer said the mill is installing new stirring capabilities that reduce the likelihood of carbon segregation in its furnace, allowing the Chicago-based company to supply high-carbon wire rod.
The mill was shut for maintenance at the end of November, a source close to the company said.
Two wire rod buyers said the upgrade will give Evraz better access to the automotive market.
