Tubular shipments slip in November: MSCI

NEW YORK — U.S. and Canadian distributors’ carbon pipe and tubing shipments fell in November and inventories rose, the latest Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) data show.

U.S. shipments totaled 206,200 tons for the month, down 3.4 percent from 213,400 tons in the same month last year, while the tally fell 17.4 percent vs. October. Inventories rose to 3.4 months’ supply from 3.3 months a year earlier and 2.9 months in October.

In Canada, November shipments stood at 51,000 tons, down 6.9 percent from the same month last year and 16 percent below October’s 60,700 tons. Inventories rose to 2.7 months’ supply from 2.5 months a year earlier and 2.1 months in October.

Through November, U.S. shipments have fallen 1.7 percent year on year to 2.54 million tons, while Canadian deliveries have tumbled 8.5 percent to 593,000 tons.
